The Collection:

Professor Paul Brians took the 186 photographs in this collection during a trip to Japan in 1998. The focus of the trip was to visit the historic sites in and around Kyoto from the Nara and Heian eras. There are numerous examples of historic Japanese architecture and gardens including photographs of the Himeji Castle, Ginkakuji Temple, Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku-ji), as well as numerous gardens. Alternatively, choose the advanced search option above the collection description and look for the full resolution tab in your search results.

Searching the Database:

Entering search terms in the box located at the top of the page will search across all of the database fields. A select list subject topics is provided below in a drop-down box. Choose a topic from the options and click on the "go" button to see the results. Search results are displayed as a series of icons that may be browsed, both forward and backward. Any highlighted text in the description is searchable; clicking on the text will execute a search on that term.

Creating the Database:

Prof. Paul Brians took the photographs in this collection and provided descriptions of the images. Mark O'English added subject, genre, and place name headings. Al Cornish provided technical support for CONTENTdm. Michael Walpole designed the graphics. Trevor Bond created this page and coordinated the project.
