The projections are concrete piers 50 feet wide. Spillway gates will go on top of this structure. Beyond is the cofferdam, holding back the river. First cribs for the cofferdam from the Washington shore may be seen in the distance at left. The spillway dam from Bradford island to the Washington side will be 1250 feet long and 180 feet wide at the base. The highest point of the dam will be 170 feet above the lowest point in the foundation. The entire project, costing nearly $42,000,000, is to be finished early in 1938
