Photographs of Asia
(Part of theĀ World Civilizations collection)
The items in this collection are housed in Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections in the Terrell Library.
The Collection:
These images are a small part of a collection donated to Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections by Prof. Marina Tolmacheva that also includes photographs, negatives, slides, and videos filmed in Central Asia, Mongolia, the Middle East, and Europe. These are unpublished images that represent an invaluable record of countries and societies essentially closed to tourists during the 1960s-1990s. Also included in this database are a number of photographs taken by Prof. Paul Brians during a 1991 trip to China. Included in these collections are a number of images of archaeological sites, religious facilities, and market scenes.
Creating the Database:
Profs. Marina Tolmacheva and Paul Brians took the photographs in this collection and provided descriptions of the images. Mark O'English added subject, genre, and place name headings. Al Cornish provided technical support for CONTENTdm. Michael Walpole designed the graphics. Trevor Bond created this page and coordinated the project.
