The first live cougar mascot was presented to Washington (State College at halftime of the 1927 homecoming game against the University of Idaho by Governor Roland H. Hartley. The two official looking gentlemen standing to the left of Butch's cage are Earl Foster and W.S.C. President E.O. Holland.
