Description	Their everyday garb reveals a secret, but only to those in the know. Islamic law allows men limited polygamy. Under the Soviet law, polygamy was prohibited in Central Asia. The prohibition was debated after independence (1991), but survived - at least officially. Polygamous marriages did in fact occur, though infrequently. Tradition dictates that each wife tie a sash around her husband’s waist before he leaves house.
